SYD to benefit from new flight!

The announcement by Air Austral (UU) that they will be flying twice weekly from Sydney to the French island of Reunion, just 130 kms from Mauritius, has been greeted with much enthusiasm by the Team at Beachcomber.

“Following the removal of the Sydney flight by Air Mauritius, this market has been devastated, however there is now the real opportunity for a resurgence” said Beachcomber’s md, Rod Eather. The Air Austral flights will begin in April 2009 using new Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft in a 3 class configuration.

Additionally, this flight will have connections to the Seychelles, an area underserviced from Australia, but one of those places that everyone wants to go to.

Beachcomber has a private island 5 star resort, Sainte Anne Resort & Spa, in the Seychelles, with a second resort opening on Praslin Island in late 2009.

Beachcomber already offers packages to Reunion via Mauritius, but will now be able to offer the reverse, directly from Sydney. Rates are expected to be released shortly and special packages to celebrate the launch will follow soon after.

Reunion is a small, stunning island, very different to that of its close neighbour, Mauritius. Here the highest peak rises to over 3000 meters above see level (higher than many ski areas in Europe’s Alps region), despite the island being just 63 kms long and 45 kms wide! Three extinct volcanoes, called the Cirques, have some of the best trekking in the world, and there is an active volcano in the south east of the island. Add to this a world-class surf beach, a blend of French and island culture, cuisines and history, and you have a desirable, and now accessible, destination.

For the relaxed island resort life that Australians have come to expect, Mauritius is just a 20 minute flight away. An interest aspect to life in Reunion is that the island is French in every way. You drive on the right and French is the language spoken. The a touch of France and the very best of both tropical island worlds – soon to be available direct from Sydney!
