Introduction of Summer Time in Mauritius

The Mauritian Government voted on Wednesday 29th July 2008 on the “Time Bill” project (introduction of Daylight Saving / summer time period).
The Daylight Saving period in Mauritius will be one hour ahead of the local standard time (i.e will be GMT+5) and will be effective  from 26 October 2008 (2 a.m local time) until 29 March 2009 (2 a.m local time) during the summer season of the southern hemisphere and corresponding to "winter time" changing dates in most European and North American countries.
This initiative, taken in the context of promoting Mauritius as a sustainable destination, is expected to produce gains to the country, reduce global carbon emissions, and generate substantial savings in terms of energy production and consumption.
