NEW SECURITY MEASURES ON
LIQUIDS, AEROSOLS AND GELS (LAG) - EFFECTIVE 01 MAR 07

In accordance with the directive of the Department of Civil Aviation
of Mauritius, new restrictions have been imposed from 01 March 2007, on
liquids, gels and aerosols carried on board aircraft departing from
Mauritius. Similar conditions will shortly be implemented in Australia.

GENERAL POLICY ON LIQUIDS

Definition of a “liquid”?
Some things are evidently liquid, like drinks (including bottled water)
and perfume. Others are less obvious, like gels, pastes, lotions,
mixture of liquids and solids and the contents of aerosols. Some
examples of these are toothpastes, hair gels, face creams, liquid
cosmetics, lip-gloss, deodorants, perfumes and shaving foam.

Liquid Limits
Only liquids in containers of 100ml or less, fitting comfortably into a
one litre transparent re-sealable plastic bag (approximately 20cm x
20cm) when fully closed, are permitted. This transparent bag, with
containers of 100ml should then be presented at the passenger security
screening area. Only one plastic bag is allowed per person (including
infants and children).

Type of bagType of Bag
Any kind of bag provided that, it is:

* Transparent and re-sealable,
* Not bigger than 20cm x 20cm or equivalent to 1 litre capacity,
* Possible to fit all liquid containers comfortably in the bag,
* Possible to close the bag completely.

EXEMPTIONS

Medicine, dietary foods and baby food in liquid form
Aviation security regulations allow some exemptions to the
restrictions. These include essential medicine and dietary requirements
in liquid form, for example
baby-food or food for people on special diets. Passengers are allowed
to bring these items to the screening points in the quantities that
they need during their flight. Passengers may be required to
demonstrate that the product is real medicine or special food.
DUTY FREE POLICY for passengers with a connecting flight

As there is no current agreement between differing countries on
liquids purchased at duty free shops/on board as at 01 March 07, we
recommend that passengers purchase duty-free at the last transfer
point, on-board their last flight sector, or at duty free outlets on
arrival (where this option is available).
